in the original "star trek" the authors indicated two different systems while the crew dated both common "hours" and "quarter years" as well as the "star date" which had two different computations.
one fan carefully calculated new years as i will quote below indicating a system of "seven units" per day. this leads to the year "2268 new at 3211.7" and its 365 days times 7 units were counte 3211 until 5784, 2573 units. if so the system started in year 2265 which we can mimic. ALSO in the first season carbomite shown "18 hours motionless" with no "warp" of neither time nor speed, was almost two units indicating two per twenty two hours.
therefore we can mimic both systems in the beginning of the "decade" starting at year 1966 first year of series 2016 and 2026 to mimic the "later system" of 7 per day for example: january 1, 2026, 3pm star date 0001.1 and for tenth, nine full 9*7=0063+1 each 3 hours  from noon so an afternoon birthday party can estimate 4pm 0064.1 and similarly during the first years mimic one of their systems of seven per day.
however the other system is also "star trek" therefore after three years switch for the following years the decade 2019 until 2026 and 2029 until the decade ends in addition to mimic the seven per day near zero, also the original system of two per day. we can estimate 730 per year: january 10, 2019 despite "conflicting inconsistency" still mimics the original star trek systems, less thousands see below, despite a month earlier mimicing the "accelerated system" since both are the original star trek dating system therefore we should mimic both as above and since we can compute the system started 365 around four years in the original system so year four is the decade cycle for starting other system both can be used since both 2 per day and seven per day are original therefore we should mimic both and as above near year four and five the "seven per day" to seem like cool big numbers and in the sixth year mimic the other for estimating star dates as above.

also fans calculated 7 per day so the biginning of a decade has big numbers too. "thanksgiving in charlie x" must be november 2265 since after  jourmey babel in october 2265 therefore the "five year mission" which cannot be 2 per year in season three dates must have been november 2265 not 2266. therefore we can estimate seven per day "2635 stardates pey year" and "quarterly checkups at around 800 stardate units. 
since both systems are in the original series we ought to mimic both and as above in the beginning of the decade from year four the larger number to seem cool thousands quickly, like year 2268 from 3211-5784, while mimicing the original original for the second half of the decade until year four as above.
