the 14 major naval losses in the pacific war 1941-1944

   from the start of the naval war, between u.s. navy and IJN, until just before the invasion of the philipine isle group, magat river region, to revert/liberate it, 14 major warships were lost not including:
musashi, j. ba' October 24th 1944, Sunk at sea between phil' isles.
fuso, j. ba' October 25th 1944 Sunk at sea by east phil' isle. same:
yamashiro, j.  ba'  October 25th 1944 Sunk at sea.
on nov'  21st 1944, j. ba' kongo sunk by u.s. submarine. (by the end of that year lost 7.)

HIRYU j.w.c.  june 4, 1942, by midway isle, bombs from w' dive bombers hit caused sink june 5.
HORNET cv8 u.s.w.c. on October 27, 1942, by boili m chain, jap' destroyer warships shot torpedoes sinking the damaged w.c. 
KAGA, j.w.c. on  june 4, 1942, by midway isle, sunk. bomb from w' dive bombers hit caused  sink.
KIRISHIMA j-ba' sunk on November 15, 1942, by boili m chain. shells from u.s. ba' damaged so jap sunk their own. then had ten remaining. [but KONGO j-ba' lost after that battle. on Nov' 21, '44 KONGO sunk. the only IJN battleship sunk by a submarine. north of isle formosa east of china coast].
LEXINGTON cv2 u.s.w.c.  May 8, 1942, by fly isle, jap' bombs and torpedoes damaged until scuttled.
MUTSU j-ba'  June 8, 1943 not "9 Jun". how?
SHOKAKU  j.w.c. on June 19, 1944,  by phil' sea east from phil' isle group. u.s. subs sank 2 more w.c.: shokaku and taiho. now only 4 remained for the battle in oct'.
SORYU  j.w.c.  on  june 4, 1942, by midway isle, sunk. bomb from w' dive bombers hit caused  sink.
TAIHO  j.w.c. on June 19, 1944,  by phil' sea east from phil' isle group. u.s. subs sank 2 more w.c.: shokaku and taiho. now only 4 remained for the battle in oct'.
WASP cv7, u.s.w.c. on Sep' 15, 1942 by boili chain, two torpedoes from Japanese submarine I-19 hit, caused sink=Scuttled.
YORKTOWN cv5 u.s.w.c. on june 6, 1942, by midway isle.  Japanese submarine I-168 torpedoe hit causd  sink. Sunk on June 7, 1942.
ZUIKAKO j.w.c. in oct' 25, '44, NE from luzon, [basicly north from magat isle group] w' group wasp and more sank z' and minor carriers torp+bombs.

on June 4, 1942, by midway isle, u.s. hit 4 major jap w.c. causing them to sink. carried aviation so cv.
after jap successfuly defended against u.s. torpedo bombers, u.s. dive bombers bombed jap major w.c.
akagi, bomb from w' dive bombers hit june 4, caused  sink june 5.
hiryu bombs from w' dive bombers hit june 4, caused  sink june 5 .
kaga bombs from w' dive bombers caused sink june 4.
soryu bombs from w' dive bombers caused sink june 4. total: June 4/5, 1942 4 sunk: akagi, hiryu, kaga, soryu by midway.
on june 6, 1942, u.s.w.c. YORKTOWN by midway isle. after damage by bombs and torpedoes, on june 6 Japanese submarine I-168 torpedoed hit causd  sink. Sunk on June 7, 1942.
on Sep' 15, 1942 by boili chain, WASP cv7, u.s.w.c. sunk. two torpedoes from Japanese submarine I-19 hit, caused sink=Scuttled.
on October 27, 1942, by boili m chain, HORNET cv8 u.s.w.c. sunk.  jap' destroyer warships shot torpedoes sinking the damaged w.c.  after Wasp. this 4th loss balanced the losses of the two sides.
Nov' '42 lost 2 j-ba'
on November 13, 1942, by boili m chain, j.ba' HIEI sunk. torpedoes from w' t-b hit 13th cause slowly sunk.  some add jap torpedoes scuttled as ordered. [not 14th].
on November 15, 1942, by boili m chain,  kiri' Sunk. shells from u.s. ba' damaged so jap sunk their own. had ten major ba' remaining. this balanced the ba' loss of the 2 sides.
  1943 
on  June 8, 1943 [not "9 Jun",] ba' MUTSU Sunk, by Fuji mr, [where m' was both in dec' '41 and march '42]  the third j.ba' lost. how? "doubts, mysterious." 9 j. ba' remaind.
  1944
on June 19, 1944 u.s. subs sank 2 more w.c.: shokaku and taiho west from marianas. 4+2=6, six major w.c. lost.  by oct' only 4 major w.c. remained by oct'. end group.
epilogue:
During the battle related to Philipine isle group 3 ba' and w.c. z' sunk.
on October 25, 1944 ne from Luzon u.s. warplanes sunk Zuikaku. the seventh w.c. lost by many bombs and torpeodes sank z' and minor carriers. only 3 major w.c. remained Amagi, Katsuragi, Unryu. as above this bttle cost 3 more ba' not including kongo: on  November 21, 1944, N of Keelung, Formosa, j.ba' KONGO sunk by u.s. submarine torpedoes.
