successful films past twenty years

i analyzed a wonderful list about financial successes in films, and subcategorized them as described.

part one:  with source, popular videos in recent decades 1999 to 2019.

why twenty years? kuz since 1977 dollar significantly WEAKER value, now weakend  to 33% ergo two decades, good line

measuring FINANCIAL success the list correctly measures value, while i extract popularity i must isolate eras of when the change in value was smaller less than double

part 2

for popularity i must remove ancient films kuz films before year 1999 DO fill the top ten kuz they were BEFORE the dollar weakend for example top 1, ‘Gone With the Wind’ Year: 1939 was the biggest financial success kuz dollars now are too weak to compete with the ancient value.

even FORTY years more recent in 1977, the success ‘Star Wars’ 1977, was before dollar weakend. so now harder to compete.

about inflation a technical and POLITICAL note you may want to skip this paragraph [on a political note the "hero" of the depression rosvelt-d rejected even his own democrat party adviser about inflation and "gold standard" and worse ignored the republican compromise... leading to a currency that is now only a third the value it was one generation ago. we need to ean THREE times as much for same value so that is the disaster that the democrat party brought harm that ENDURES even now... and which not only rnc opposed... but even his own democrat fiancial advisor warned wrong but  dnc ignored the warning and brought harm to america... to the degree of ONLY 33% value yikes. the up side is the debt now is weaker dollars... but still obama-d  swelled debt, another democrat doing great harm by swelling debt by almost double in 8 years so less time than the 33% weakening.]

facts are painful so lets escape to the fun video world !!

when we adjust the weaker dollar, as explained above... blame democrat prez,   500 million in 1977 was 3 times stronger than 500 million now... therefore videos now cannot fairly compete kuz the dollar is much weaker now than in 1977. i must separate eras. in fact this decade any success "less than 1.5 billion" is LESS financial success than 500 million then.

for example s.w. 1977, Year: 1977

Tickets sold (estimated): 142.7 million, Unadjusted domestic gross: $461 million, Adjusted domestic gross: $1.6 billion... we see now would need much more to win kuz dollar MUCH MUCH weaker. that star wars was bigger success in value than sw7 2015, also the 1977 sw did sell more tickets so was more popular than the recent sw. about tickets : indicate popularity, divide ticket price finding sw 1977, sold around 142 million tik'ts that is more popular than double tickets than UNPOPULAR black panther 2018, only 76 million tickets... barely half of sw 1977 and far from sw2015 too, see stats below later., 100 million tickets. but first:

in terms of financial success marvel "top" winners in both 2018 and 2019 were WEAK dollars. so not real financial success. so we cannot fairly compete with 1977. ALSO when we compare to video in the SAME era sw 2015 we see that these "successes" were truly lame... as above number of tickets for b.p. very far from each sw1977, and even very far from sw 2015, wih 100 m.t.

the big numbers "endgame 860 m.d. were weak dollars and still more than black panther also weak dollars and far more than 700 m.d. so not real success only topping "their years" while FAR from the good ones such as sw-fa and jw both in 2015 they simply "competed against lame marvel infinity war"

when compare to s.w. 2015 we find that "even" these two TOP  of their year were truly lame in popularity indicating a flawed story that did not draw audiences.

both of those tops were far from $900 million and far less than 108 m' tkts kuz 76m.t. less by millions than 100m tkts and less than 900 m.d. by many millions.

i must remove ancient films from the top successes kuz the profit value only because the dollar was weak since 1999 i mean just because they were sold LONG BEFORE the dollar weakened, therefore that does not measure the popularity.

before 1980, 500 milion of strong dollars had value of 1500 million dollars now, after weaker so need to compare same era. therefore these twenty years from 2019 back to 1999. so objectively must include s.w. 1999

PART 3 THE LIST

MOST POPULAR in these twenty years , top five?

top: s.w.7 2015, 2, avatar 2009, 3, endgame 2019, 4, sw 1999, 5, jur. world 2015

this j.w. ranking 25 kus 20 old films were sold for stronger dollars.

analysis:

1, s.w. 2015 most popular in this decade and era since 1999 nothing better than sw7 ever since sw 1 success in the top FIVE.

even adjusting films for inflation others dont reach sw7's adjusted  970 m. nor even reach 936m.

divide ticket price to estimate 100 million tickets sold domestic in a country of 300 million one in three saw or many saw twice.

2, avatar 2009, WON avengers endgame, earned less kuz a.e. 854 m' small dollars.

4, s.w.1999 more popular than jurasic world over 80m tkts

jw top five but no others  passed 712m EVEN by adjusting 2012 video before shrunk.

PART 4, stats

the top five start with the best sw-fa as above ranked 11 kuz ancient films were bought with stronger dollar. yet best of this era.

11. ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ 2015

Tickets sold (estimated): 108 million

Unadjusted domestic gross: $936.66 million

Adjusted domestic gross: $974.11 million

15. ‘Avatar’ 2009

Tickets sold (estimated): 95.91 million

Unadjusted domestic gross: $760.5 million

Adjusted domestic gross: $876.76 million far more successful than later "success" endgame see 16. and despite huge success over a.e. still sw7 far better.

16. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ 2019

Tickets sold (estimated): 98.84 million, truly millions less than f.a.

Unadjusted domestic gross: $854.21 million

Adjusted domestic gross: $854.21 million shrunk dollars less financial success than avatar. the thesis of the source article based on financial success is this detail.

in top five number four 95% of endgame value so near,

19. ‘Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace' Year: 1999

Tickets sold (estimated): 84.82 million

Unadjusted domestic gross: $474.54 million,

Adjusted domestic gross: $813.71 million not double yet [474 would be 950] so same era

95% almost as much as endgame !

fifth last of top five:

25. ‘Jurassic World’Year: 2015

Tickets sold (estimated): 79 million

Unadjusted domestic gross: $652.27 million

Adjusted domestic gross: $712.23 million

phase two :  top ten

6,  Avengers 2012 despite strong dollars less than 700m'

7, black panther 2018 only seems for its year top but not REAL success kuz even less than jur. world 2015 it simply came out in a year when movies SUCKED such as infinity war easy to surpass.

8, dark knight 2008, 9, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’  2018 surpassed by 35=8+27 old

tenth shrek 2004

30. ‘The Avengers’ Year: 2012

Tickets sold (estimated): 76.88 million

Unadjusted domestic gross: $623.35 million

Adjusted domestic gross: $692.7 million even adjusted far

31. ‘Black Panther’ less than jur wrl 2015 inflation floods the top 30 spots so how to divide time?

Year: 2018

Tickets sold (estimated): 76.27 million

Unadjusted domestic gross: $700 million

Adjusted domestic gross: $687.21 million

despite bp best for that years weak money still smaller success than jurasic world 3 years previous 2015 sold for value 712 kus that year 652 million dolars was worth more than 700 million in 2018

dark knight 2008

Tickets sold (estimated): 74.5 million

Unadjusted domestic gross: $535.23 million

Adjusted domestic gross: $671.3 million

36. ‘Avengers: Infinity War’  2018

Tickets sold (estimated): 72.42 million

Unadjusted domestic gross: $678.81 million

Adjusted domestic gross: $652.5 million

38. ‘Shrek’  2004 in toop ten, surpased by 9 recent and ranked 38 financially kuz 28 twenty old films were sold when before dollar weakend

to list the top ten i needed to sift through 40 old films from years before even 1970, 12 successes in years 1937 despite the depression then the dollar was strong to buy for example "gone with the wind" 1939 when dollar strong. its 200 million was giant buy power so despite 200 million then seems less than 700m' yet the later 700m' was weaker dollars like 700 cents is less success. twelve 12 old successes in years

1937, 1939, 1941,

1956, 1959b,

1961, 1964,  1965b, 1967b, surpassed in value recent ones yet not indicate popular.

another 13 successes displaced these top ten,

1972, 1973b, 1975, 1977, 1978

1980, 1981, 1983, 1984

1994b, 1997

hwever the dollr in 1977 was three times stronger than now surpassing the recent ones sold for WEAK dollars.

for example s.w. 1977

Year: 1977

Tickets sold (estimated): 142.7 million

Unadjusted domestic gross: $461 million

Adjusted domestic gross: $1.6 billion

sold when dollar was strong and three times stronger than now. we divide ticket price to estimate 142.7 million tickets... more than HALF of americans saw it or many watched twice.

that is popular, in success far surpassing avengers 2019

LESS than one million tickets : Tickets sold (estimated): 98.84 million

Unadjusted domestic gross: $854.21 million

Adjusted domestic gross: $854.21 million shrunk dollars

but the dollar then was 3 times stronger than after it weakend.

Tickets sold (estimated): 71 million

Unadjusted domestic gross: $441.22 million

Adjusted domestic gross: $640.16 million

completes top ten of these past twenty years including 1999 for twenty years.

these top ten were often surpassed in success by old films kuz by 2004 the dollar had weakend as calculated by these financial sites: "source of gathered data"

https://www.workandmoney.com/

https://www.granitemedia.com/

https://www.workandmoney.com/s/highest-grossing-movies-inflation-adjusted-e8af52dd79b447f9

many of the newest MOST popular films sold tickets for WEAK dollars for example

this year we dont know yet which "cinema-success" will be the best TOTAL for 2020...  yet... yet we DO know last years top 858 million dollars a large number of WAEK dollars.

many of the top thirty films actually EARNED MORE with less dollars kuz BEFORE the dollar weakend.

ancient films from 1939 were sold for dollars before the dollars  were weakend by inflation. many years had films that were sold for MORE VALUE than the recent successes which sold for weak dollars. for example a video from 1939 surpasses almost every recent success kuz that year the dollar was stron.

other years were:

1937, 1939, 1941,

1956, 1959b,

1961, 1964,  1965b, 1967b,

1972, 1973b, 1975, 1977, 1978

1980, 1981, 1983, 1984

1994b, 1997

part two
another analysis less important yet relevant
1939 202m tikt, 65
when we look at the popular films forty years ago the inflation rate of money is very scary and makes comparison dificult for example sw 1977:ranked 2 for inflation: sold more tkt than et, so more popular yet the adjustment is three times kuz of inflation rate of weak money.  so first i must isolate top ten in the twenty years when inflatin was less scary

when i saw your ad for the list of popular films... i was so shocked i almost did not "klik the link in time" before it switched...  OMG you worked so hard gathering the data which i struggled and failed to find... and you bothered to put your ad where nerds like me would find it... of course you will be in the footnote of my analysis. both granitemedia and https://www.workandmoney.com/  much thanks for putting your ad in microsoft solitaire collection i cant fathom how you found me but this was exciting.
