Col. Hardy, Dr. Hamilton, and Lois board the plane that will transport the pod to Metropolis. Superman flies to the device in the Indian Ocean called World Engine. As he flies near it, the Kryptonian defense mechanism fends him off using long tentacles.
In Metropolis, the warplanes fail to destroy Zod's machine, which interferes with gravitation. The transport is also unable to properly drop the pod.
Deep underneath the World Engine, Clark struggles and overcomes the engine's output. He manages to propel himself crashing through it which causes it to explode. This ruins the device in Metropolis. While Superman is exhausted and extends his arm to the sun to regain his strength, Hardy can fly the transport closer to Zod's ship. Faora intercepted it.
Zod, quickly flew to Metropolis. As he attempts to destroy the military plane, Superman swoops in and crashes into the ship's control panel. Zod demands that Clark let him complete his plan to revive Krypton. "Krypton had its chance," yells Clark, who then uses his heat-vision to tear apart the spacecraft. It crashes ruining the [[Genesis Chamber]]. Faora fails as Hardy steers the plane to crash into the spacecraft. When it tilted, Lois loses her balance and falls. The collision of the two Phantom Drives causes the Military aircraft, and Zod's ship (along with the people on the vessels), to disappear in a created singularity.
Clark manages to save Lois and puts her safely on the ground. Nearby, the sound of moving metal is heard, and Clark finds Zod, thoroughly enraged. Zod tells Clark that he was engineered to be a General of Krypton. His purpose was to protect it and its people. Now that he is unable to revive krypton's nation, Zod lost his purpose. He threatens to kill the humans that Clark protects.
Zod duels Superman throughout Metropolis, smashing through buildings. During the fight, Zod adapts further to Earth's atmosphere, spawning heat-vision and the ability for flight. In a train station, Zod activates his heat vision, aiming it at a trapped family. "If you love these people so much, then you can mourn for them," he shouts. Clark begs Zod not to kill them, but when Zod continues, Clark stops Zod's violence by snapping the General's neck, killing him. Distraught, Clark agonizes over killing Zod even though he had no other option. Lois appears and comforts Clark.
Later, Swanwick and Major [[Carrie Farris]] find Superman downing a drone. Superman claims that he knows they had sent it to find his home on Earth. He wants the search to stop. He pledges to fight for the security of Earth.
Clark then returns to Smallville, where he and Martha visit Jonathan's grave. Clark states that he wishes his father could have seen his actions. Martha Kent says he did. When she asks what Clark intends to do now, he explains that he'll get a job where he will be updated on the threats and troubles around the world.
Clark travels to the [[Daily Planet]] building and is introduced to Lois Lane by Perry White. Lois, pretending not to know Clark, jokingly welcomes him "to the Planet". "Glad to be here, Lois" an amused Clark retorts showing he knows her.
