PART ONE the treasure map
note introduction: although the story is for relaxing and pleasure i hope to include and weave some thought provoking ideas into this following adventure story.
part one
A bus advanced along a wide rural street, that had a row of pine trees on each side. it slowd and muuvd toward the curb. when bus number five stopd, the doors opend, and the last passenger, Evvin stepd down to the cement pavement. he turnd left and wawkd quickly toward home. he had liit brown hair that was combed to his riit and hanging over his narrow forehead. his eyes were dull brown. his nose was smaller than average. his pale lips almost blended into the pale skin where he shaved his mustash every evening. the red had left his lips and seemd to have traveld upward to his bloodshot yellowish-white eyes with many red veins.
almost 24 hours since his shave, the brown hairs of his beard and stash were already sprouting again. Evvin Eavz rubbed his neck and felt the area was very ruf. finally he reached the way, that was paved with white concrete, connecting the sidewawk to the stairs of his small home. today as he lookd at the familiar steps, by the door, he realized that when he would be old those steps would be difficult to climb. but who thinks about that when buying a home?
he thout about his five kids. their names were: Enriq, Allix, viki, zoe, and qali. each name he had discussed with his wife wanda, who had kept her family name wafbirg, instead of joining the eavz family. they had each suggested names and the other had rejected them. each wanted the name that they chose.
the only solution would be to choose a third name so neither "won". they had rolled a die which showed five for the fifth letter. and rolled again to know which group of letters in the alphabet. when the die showed one dot pip they each started to write five names that begin with the fifth letter of the first group of letters: e. his list of names differd from hers despite the limitation that they used the same letter. neither could think of five.
his list was: ed, eric, enriq, and eugene. her list was: ethan*, erik, evvin junior, and enriq. evvin opposed ethan as too common and felt evvin junior was just a jab at him for not accepting her name-suggestions. the only names that agreed were erik and enriq, except the spelling of erik. so he said "look we both wrote enriq" she said "but its my idea--yes and i agree". so their eldest son was named enriq.
all this he recald as he walked along the way. he grabd the black railing and hauld his tired body up the two low stairs. each stair was only two-thirds the height of common normal stairs. the door that he faced was a tall and wide mesh of net of screen to keep the bugs from flying inside. it was lokd as he had instructed the brats. he smiled at his luck to "get obedient" kids who lokd the door. he inserted and turnd the key once and twice... but could not turn the second time. oof those brats... he had told them to "always turn the lock twice". how could they be so lazy and even disobey just for such a small difference.
a big gain can tempt a person to violate rules but who would steal from a shop just for something that had a small price. breaking principles for a small gain seemd worse kuz they could buy for a small price and for that small diffference they were breaking the ethics. for what small temptation and gain??
he enterd the home and wawked toward the kids who sat on the soft sofa quietly reading books. this old fashioned family would keep the classic enjoyment. after skool the kids could read a book that they chose and borrowed from the library.
large photos of paintings surrounded the small room, that had only one dark brown sofa. no other furniture. it was long enuf for the older kids and younger kids to sit. the youngest dawter "qali" was in the "playpen" like a small netted prison so she would not wander around and fall down steps.
qali had already started to walk. now she sat in the pen with her toys looking at them and putting them in her mouth. seemingly she enjoyd the touch of the wood blocks and plastic rings on her tongue. she could not be enjoying the tastelessness. yet she kept jamming different blocks into her mouth. trying to taste the different colors.
the two oldest kids, enriq and allix were reading adventure books. they fild two thirds of the sofa. the two younger kids fit on the third cushion. vikki was reading a book with very few pictures and zoe lookd at a book almost entirely pictures.
the home was so relaxd and quiet. no loud shouting from running brats and no loud noise from a television as common in other families. even no sound from the radio.
PART TWO in the sitting room
evvin said the required "hi kids" and the brats did not respond. had they not even heard him? but he must say it or they would feel he ignored them.
he approached the youngest reader named zoe. he lay his hand on her dark brown hair. she lookd up and smiled but just as quikly lookd down to see more pictures and read the words of the story. he could see it was about a pet dog, in the many pictures.
next he lay his hand on viki, and she protested, almost yeld "stop that". but he knew he must show them that he was not ignoring them. the older brats enriq and allix turnd breifly to glare at viki but she did not see their angry eyes as she returnd to her book about a fantasy world.
so they glared at him for causing the disturbance... again... they glared with a look that said "dont do this every night". so he wisperd "sorry" but not sorry at all. he would do it again tmoro so his kids would know he did not ignore them.
over the sofa was a large map of the world. in its center were the land masses: the nile continent and ural contin-ent surrounded by dark green water to symbolize the sea. this map was unique because the LENGTH of each country was the TRUE length, [in proportion to the ball] for example the country called russia was the true length along the top of the ball, from the sea called baltic until the pacific coast, that was west of the peninsula. this was important to evvin kuz 2 helicopters flying east from the same line of longitude, for example 32 longitude near the edj of baltic sea, one in north by that sea and another south near the nile river, each flying east at the same speed for same time, would reach pacific coast different times kus the north one went along the smaller length at the north top of the ball. no maps botherd to be accurate about length. when he finally found one, he was so excited that he bought and framed it in a bright red frame. that map, over the sofa was now behind him as he passd thru a small wiit door.
the map printer was careful that no "country" should be the name of any sea, but this was not important to evvin. just the true length. the sea was named with the common four names 1 arctic, north of the ural continent. atlantic, to east of amazon river, brahmaputra, south of the ural continent, and pacific", east of the ural continent. however, the name arctic was small inside parantheses, but in big letters was the name yenisei, same as the longest river that feeds that ocean. similarly, the name atlantic was small inside parantheses, the name in big letters was amazon ocean, kuz the same name as the long river that fed it.
the name brahmaputra rejected a country-name because the ocean must be shared. any ocean is not the ocean of any one country. this river was longer than each tigris and euphrates and was fed by some of the ganges river before pouring into a wide "gulf" that had no narrow neck to the ocean, similar to gulf of mississippi, that is south and around cuba. this gulf was wide relative to its size in contrast to bay of california to east of baja the mexico peninsula, that is long relativ to its size same as chesapeak or red bay that is east of egypt.
similarly, the name pacific was small inside parantheses but the name "chang" ocean was near the chang river that westerners called yangtze river, that was the longest river in the region and pours into the chang ocean. evvin wonderd what was the difference between a bay and a gulf. some foolish people had named gulf for both the wide water around cuba and the narrow water east of baja so this must be fixd.
behind him the reading room was 4 yards long and barely two yards wide. a lone small window was in each of the two outer walls. the map was beside one small window that had a curtain with wirls of rainbow colors. the second window was centerd in the space between the edj of the door and the corner. the was no television in this home. and no table for a radio in the reading room.
to his riit were narrow stairs upward to the upper level. there two bed rooms and two shower rooms with toilets, filled the small upper level over the reading room and kijjin. he thout that his wife wanda was up there in the room on the right side of the steps. he felt sad that he had the smaller room but when zoe was born they had needed to switch sides swapping the larger room for enriq, allix and viki.
he enterd the small kijjen and grabbed a giant pot. he filled it with water and lay it on the stove. he turnd the knob for the gas fuel. as the gas came up a spark lit the gas becoming a flame. much more convenient than the past when there were two buttons, a second for the spark which often did not ignite the gas anyway. the easy life of modern times.
as the water heated in the coverd pot he pulld the fresh chicken chests from his shoulder bag. he rinsd them and cut the chicken into small chunks. his mind was not on the work. he was thinking about the TREASURE map. he tossed the chunks of chikken into the boiling water and made effort to notice the time. as the water boild the chicken, he tossed spices inside. then he quickly peald and tossd whole onions in. next he cut many potatoes and carrots and splashed them into the pot. last he grabbed a bag of pasta and dumped that into the same pot. the flame would do all the work for feeding his family. while he thout about the treasure map and the gold treasure.
PART THREE
what would he do, if he had a treasure? evvin askd himself as he sat in the quiet kitchen to watch the pot. he would prefer searate bedrooms for the sons from dawters. but they had bought the small house before they knew they would have five kids. anyway they could not buy a large house. but truly if he had a treasure to sell he could sell the gold and buy a home so large that each of the five kids could have a private room.
his wife wanda worked in the management of a hospital. her salary was the source of the payment for the mortgage debt. his salary was pitiful from his technician job. he would go from hospital to hospital testing and maintaining the electronic medical devices.
he wished he was in construction building the new shopping centers, according to the plans of rich architects who did not see the situation on the ground.
only the rich could afford college which caused them to have huge salaries and grow richer but the sad part was they did not need the HUGE salary kuz even before the job their families were rich... so rich that they were rich enuf to pay for college... and almost endless luxuries.
the poor were the ones that needed the large salary but we poor, he concluded, could not wait four years for the training for the fancy jobs nor pay for college. what a terrible system. the poor were doomed to stay poor and get poorer as the few rich grew richer.
but the treasure gave him hope.
his frend from childhood had sent him the tresure map by registerd mail. evvin did not know how his ex-girlfrend gemma had found the map. he was delighted that she wanted to include him in the adventure of finding the treshir.
gemma had been his girlfrend wen he was in ninth grade. she was then in seventh grade. they continued the frendship until the winter when he was a senior, in twelfth grade. she wanted "someone better". she followed a guy named jayden who was "too cool" for anybody but still enjoyed that she chased him. after much asking he finally swapd his girlfreind named lezli. and started meeting gemma regularly. soon he was calling her "his gem" as evvin grit his teeth jealously.
evvin had written a poem to show his frustration. by the way poems "must" rhyme or they lack skill. try writing a poetic message while limiting yourself to words that rhyme... that is skill.
in a storm of jealousy and sadness and frustration evvin had written a poem about "felma". he chose the name kuz it sounded similar to wilma but had the letters like female. it could rhyme with the name thelma too.
as a jealous exboyfrend he had watched his closest frend clamber for jaydens affection... and win it as she "threw herself at him" just because people thout that jayden was cool. she would smother jayden with kisses as he smiled as the winner of a trophy... as evvin watched teeth clenched in frustration, powerless about his ex-girlfrend, the emotions motivated him to pour his emotions into words, so evvin had written:
"i miss you felma. why did you leave?
i feel so lonely this christmas eve.
i see you with that obese daryl.
grossly fat. a huge barrel.
i feel his skin thru your fingertips.
i feel his lips wen i see you kiss.
i feel my heart is between your teeth,
cut by incisors at each heart beat.
this poem had the painful description similar to the idea that was already in the song "obssessed by dynoro"but this was different style of rhyme and rythm. the idea was slightly different too. he could call it "inspired" by that song.
evvin was obviously from a poor family. no girls threw themselves at him, when they saw his simple clothing. he thout about becoming gay... since he cant get a girl but that specific action was physicly dirty. and for that reason in his eyes bad even gross. he felt that they had an illness same as those who enjoy jumping inside dirty soiled garbage bins... with waste stuck on the sides, no healthy person would enjoy that... that showed an illness in the mind that needed medicine but nobody would allow him to voice such opinions. only the gay had free speech instead of the thinkers.
not gay guy wanted to be his frend either.
there was one girl that enjoyed talking to him but she said she would never bother with any boyfrend. she just wanted to talk. since he was lonely he did not have any other option so he listened to her talk about life and emotions.
he showed her his poem and she could not see any difference between it and the song obsessed dynoro, but the rhyme and words were different.
years had passed until he met wanda. but that is a different story... evvin interrupted his memories to stir the vejdables and chikken.
evvin wonderd why had gemma sent him the map? he would get a chance to spend time with the one person that he loved and still loved... gemma. he had analyzed the map each night. trying to decypher the places. all his free time was on this mission. each time he made an increment of advance in understanding, he had written a message by electronic mail to gemma. she always replied the same day with encouragement and more information that was relavant to his ideas.
he felt that she understood him. and better than his wife wanda.
in contrast when he talkd to wanda, her responses had almost no connection to the topics he was saying. as if she heard different words in a schyzophrenic halucination and was responding to those words, instead of the words that he said.
she almost never understood him. he realized too late that he was mistaken to marry wanda but now he would simply tolerate her and not talk. he did not regret marrying her kuz he could not get the one girl that he loved, named gemma, who had been his girlfrend for a long time. nor could he find any other girl. they all saw that he lacked the money to buy them expensive presents and prefferd those that were able to buy them fancy presents... they could marry them and "buy stuff without even thinking about any budget" and best yet... if there was a divorce they would get a portion of the wealth... which girl would not be tempted by that?
evvin wanted to think more about solving the mystery of the treasure... but it was time to take the pot from the fire.
he checked and saw the food was ready and then sent a wutsapp message to the family watsapp group. he listend from the kitchen as the cellular phones of his kids beepd almost at the same time in the sitting room.
enriq wrote back "i ate too much today. i feel stufd". allix wrote back shorter message with picture: "not hungry" using the image of a rope knotted for the word "not". evvin opened his eyes wide in surprise as he saw that one.
similarly viki wrote "i wanna read". only zoe wrote back she was "coming in a minit" spelling words as they sound. should he tell her it was wrong? actualy "minit" seemd more precise and even univeral. anybody in any country would know the meaning instead of the sound of "minute" and traditional spelling. he did not bother to correct her that minute is speld with a u. also that word minute "described things" as an adjective.
last he noticed that wanda had not responded. perhaps she did not hear the beep.
he grabbed a brown boal and using a ladle put some chikken and vejdables inside for zoe. he lay it on the blue mat that zoe had made. she had cut shapes in wiit paper and lay it on blue paper then it was slipd into a plastic cover. a spoon and fork already lay on the mat. he noticed only zoe had prepared her place. she had even added a small sign. it had her name "zoe" and was hanging from green wool yarn from the chair, on paper. the yarn was runnning thru the holes [for the rings in a binder].
evvin climbed the narrow steps but felt pain in his riit knee. some days his left knee aikd.
surprisingly he thout "i wish i were with gemma' the same time that he enterd the room for himself and wife wanda.
the room was too quiet. not even a sound of breathing. "sweety" he whisperd not wanting to startle her from her sleep. last time he woke her by saying "wanda" instead of whisper and she had exploded that he had startled her and that was a bad manner to wake anybody... full of accusations over tiny issues.
so he adjusted himself to whisper, as he adjusted many things, to keep the family "together". no response. he did not want to switch on the light for her critical response would be the same. so evvin pressd the button on the phone to shine the dim liit of the screen on the bed where his wife slept... and saw that the covers were neat and the bed was empty... except a note.
now he switched on the liit. he read the note. "i have always wanted to leave you. i regret that my parents pressured me into marrying you. you dont even deserve for me to tell you except this note. i am not lost nor at any hospital i am simply leaving to search for the real me."
evvin collapsed on that bed, no longer his wifes bed, and sobbed... less for his wife leaving, but more for the loneliness... his whole life was empty and had always been empty.
after a few minutes of sobbing zoe was at the door and asked "pa, please serve me some more".
he swallowed his strong emotions and pretended to smile at zoe.
"certainly sweety. you must eat enuf to grow tall like your brothers"
zoe shot back in the tone of a teenager "i dont wanna be like dumb enriq. and dont call me sweety".
that surprised him so much that he finally genuinely smiled for the first time since thinking about the treasure.
to be continued.

she almost never understood him. he realized too late that he was mistaken to marry wanda but now he would simply tolerate her and not talk. he did not regret marrying her kuz he could not get the one girl that he loved, named gemma, who had been his girlfrend for a long time. nor could he find any other girl. they all saw that he lacked the money to buy them expensive presents and prefferd those that were able to buy them fancy presents... they could marry them and "buy stuff without even thinking about any budget" and best yet... if there was a divorce they would get a portion of the wealth... which girl would not be tempted by that?
evvin wanted to think more about solving the mystery of the treasure... but it was time to take the pot from the fire.
he checked and saw the food was ready and then sent a wutsapp message to the family watsapp group. he listend from the kitchen as the cellular phones of his kids beepd almost at the same time in the sitting room.
enriq wrote back "i ate too much today. i feel stufd". allix wrote back shorter message with picture: "not hungry" using the image of a rope knotted for the word "not". evvin opened his eyes wide in surprise as he saw that one.
similarly viki wrote "i wanna read". only zoe wrote back she was "coming in a minit" spelling words as they sound. should he tell her it was wrong? actualy "minit" seemd more precise and even univeral. anybody in any country would know the meaning instead of the sound of "minute" and traditional spelling. he did not bother to correct her that minute is speld with a u. also that word minute "described things" as an adjective.
last he noticed that wanda had not responded. perhaps she did not hear the beep.
he grabbed a brown boal and using a ladle put some chikken and vejdables inside for zoe. he lay it on the blue mat that zoe had made. she had cut shapes in wiit paper and lay it on blue paper then it was slipd into a plastic cover. a spoon and fork already lay on the mat. he noticed only zoe had prepared her place. she had even added a small sign. it had her name "zoe" and was hanging from green wool yarn from the chair, on paper. the yarn was runnning thru the holes [for the rings in a binder].
evvin climbed the narrow steps but felt pain in his riit knee. some days his left knee aikd.
surprisingly he thout "i wish i were with gemma' the same time that he enterd the room for himself and wife wanda.
the room was too quiet. not even a sound of breathing.
