when i first watched superman 1978 i did not know that it had mant separate independet stories.

we were in a summer "camp" which simply continued school but added a bit of swimming and organized sports.

the morning were studying religion and then baseball or basketball or watching campers or counselors acting in  plays with stories.

on rainy days we coild not play outside base ball nor vollet ball so we had some indoor sports like the "tag" using a rolling ball and dodgeball indoors.

instead of the outdoor sport they gave time for an indoor video.

so instead of 45 minutes baseball the staff rented superman 1978. but wait we all knew that videos are longer than an hour so what good is a video 3 hours long to fill 45 minutes?

if we would know the video had separate stories independent it would not matter that we did not see the end because the stories were independent.

i complained to my counselor how can they give us only 45 minutes to see a longer video.

he coulda said "we wil continue on a different rain day" or after he saw it and had known coulda told us the stories are independent.

instead he said what is wrong with watching the first half hour? i said then we miss the ending the ending is the part they make the best.

so he asked the campers if they wanted to watch the ending and as expected they said watch in order. so i tried to explain the ending is the best part ad we wont see the ending then we voted again and everybody but me voted from beginning.

well the beginning started with a curtain and a kid reading a comic book and then names... i said we should fast forward the names due to limited time. so the counselor started fast forwading but the kids complained look at those cool shapes of the names lights stretching so we watched it slow.

then the man said "long" words too long for first graders with no indication it was a court trial... until the end "guilty guilty".

then they talked some more... and the dramatic separation sending baby away to save him from the destruction.

i complained "its 20 minutes and we did not even see superman once yet"

a brat corrected me "what a moron he doesnt even know the baby is superman" everybody laughed but i said a baby cant do anything.

finally the pointy star started flying "yay superman flew" in a hi-tech no flame rocket. 25 minutes of talking mostly on krypton. followed by some stars and more talking so boring... i dont know how the other brats managed so much adult language i dont mean filthy words i mean incomplete sentences with adult words and the adult court words.

finally at "half hour it showed the fiery crash" and the super baby lifting a car. one super act of strength, hardly worth the wait of 30 minutes with much boring talking.

next the players practiced football and the cheerleaders cheered...  the 45 minutes ended "aww" next activity go play indoor sports. 

due to not accelrating the names we did not even see the minute 33 the "super kick nor the running faster than a train"... just one more minute! i would not know that part until years later. despite the time "wasted" voting one more minute we coulda seen the running if they accelerted fast forward the names at the beginning only one more minute but we did not know.

the alternative to watch the last 40 minutes is also bad because that would be chasing the rockets what rockets? who shot them and why? and what type of rockets.

now that i saw the whole thing i would recommend the counselor say "the stories are separate and told the story of superman's parents." that would cancel the expectation of seeing superman or start with superman in the rocket at minute 20 considering limited time. then we would see lift the car and running faster than a train.

the first twenty minutes the words were too adult and the order bad and not even about superman.

on the next rainy day they didnot continue they rented star wars.

the tv was poor quality so the words were unreadable and why were the two space vehicles shooting at each other and why cant we continue superman?

"shut up we cant here the cool laser battle." they were right so i left.  i missed the start of the story the princess got captured and luke led robots home and talked with his aunt... that is all they saw in 45 minutes one battle and 30 minutes talking. what did i miss they did not see the good part anyway.

the next rainy day they played bingo many times to fill the time and no more videos because tv is a religious sin and we needed to be holy. i continued asking to see the rest of those ones we started but the policy forbade tv and video.

decades later i purchased a video player and watched the whole video star wars. the start is stupid why are they shooting to blow up the rebels if later they say take them "alive"? also they would destroy the "stolen tapes" that they needed back.

now i know the answer they shot at the rebel shield... like the replicators shot at shields to capture but not to destroy the vehicle.

in 1938 in metropolis, that is a city parallel of our earth's new york city but on a different parallel earth... a newspaper reported about the money problems. 

away from earth "past the moon" and far away from earth is a red star with a planet. it should say the name krypton.

in a court case they accused some people of rebelling against the government. court bla bla.

they imprisond the rebel leaders.

next they guy, pa of superman warned the planet will "explode" so we must value lives and escape. they are stibborn and threaten him with the same punishment so he will shut up.

it is hard to separate rom their baby bla bla but he flew to safety and the planet shook and crumbled and people fell and finally he was corect and the planet exploded.

the space vehicle flew to earth and came down over a field. now you can continue at minute 26! "dont interefere with human history and the crash landing and the lift car and within ten minutes running faster than a train. the stories are indelendent at different ages.

and in 40 minutes can see from baby came to earth... a parallel earth not this one. they dont have statue of liberty in new york  city that planet is parallel but is named metropolis.

until minute 1:06... INCLUDING the creation of the ice crystal fortress. yay! and his first flying yay!next started work at the newspaper office where the bottle sprayed clark.

if they knew about catching the bullet in minute 1:07 maybe they would allow one more minute so you can see him catch the bullet and fall down before the next indoor sport. the end.
