dec 7, u.s. sub found 3 s. subs and sonar heard a strange sound. cia talked about soviet navy being more active.
8th at cia again, ryan saw message from spy, that soviets sent navy to sink r.o. ryan claims its captain wants to defect like others did. s. claim it will attack u.s. r' met prez, advised to welcome defectors not shoot if find.
9 r' came to sub k'. brit sub helpd it search [US shared info with ally brit, dumb policy, no benefit but risk of people selling info]. sonar guy in USS sub D' figured out the strange sound is propulsion for sub n followed. s. sub also "hunted for r.o." with orders to sink it.

11th navy brass approved plan. in RO doc found radiation so crew feared leak. a US bt' moved toward s. fleet. plane flew a rescue mini-sub from coast. US ship saw s. warplane n chased it away. (but Libyan got shot. should shoot down so that is my fan fiction here). in politboro secret meeting they talk about stopping RO using their secret agent the cook.
12 both navies move near each other and detect each other. who will fire first? above them jets of both sides patrol. all made weapons ready. Soviets stop searching and prepare to face US navy.
US navy jets swerve and the sound seems like a missile. a soviet su27 with SIX (book said 4, but ten racks but common 6) missiles fired at them. nick?? fix kuz if missile near detonate. after one destroyed f14, 3 drop chaff triggered missile harmlessly. then? US wimp?? not reply?? unless... soviet squadron leader ALREADY shot his subordinate showing not ordered. if shot and return then domino...
a sick soviet sailor gets medical treatment in hospital and... he is a cook. hmm see 11 dec'. meanwhile US fill a similar sub with explosive to seem RO sunk.
13 US added more jets to region ready to attack Soviet navy. s. stopd manuvering for shooting and only search for RO as did before facing US navy. after shot!!
US sub followed mystery sub. in brit sub ryan reads about defectors.
14 at Pentagon they discuss the soviets block ports. they want the sub intact. they got message one found and is tracking RO. told ryan to warn RO.
