date 5 ramius was etc. [note: WAS=flaw! author chose to use dates but told past not this day! oops] ramius remembered: he was a communist leader's son. r' pretended loyalty so got promoted in s. navy. when wife died in a frustrating situation he decided to defect.
on dec' 6 at CIA ryan saw photos of a soviet sub. it had mystery door panels. someone claimd it indicated a special silent propulsion system.
7th in US sub a sonar guy saw 3 soviet subs and heard another strange sound. ryan attended CIA meeting about soviet navy activity.
8 at CIA, again, ryan saw a message from spy that soviet navy will sink RO. during the debate, ryan advised pres. reagan to welcome defector.
9 ryan flew to US sub that searched with brit sub. [note: US shared info with ally brit which was bad policy and a dumb risk due to people who can sell information.] elsewhere, in sub dallas, sonar guy understood the strange sound was the silent propulsion for sub, so d' followd RO. the soviet sub kon' "hunted the RO" to sink it.
10 many s. ships spread at sea hunting RO. US ships watched them.
11th in RO doc warns radiation. a US battleship moved toward s. fleet. a plane moved a rescue mini-sub from coast, as ordered. US boats saw a soviet warplane. a u.s. jet flew and intercepted it to CHASE AWAY [note: FLAW we shot libyan in such a situation, and should shoot the one who came near. will this be a pattern? see dec. 12 YES author wants america to "not return fire"! again bad policy enemy can think US is not willing to shoot back ! so lack deterrent.] +fan fiction: the soviet jet neared ten miles. a small destroyer shot a s.a.m. at it so it turned away. the missile neared so the jet fled faster and pilot ejected. then we aborted it. the plane flew straight for a while.
